BCCRF is proud to have awarded one of our Micro Grants to Contra Cancer Puerto Rico. Funds were used to support a community event with presentations focused on culturally sensitive, fact-based guidance for breast cancer patients and families in Dorado, Puerto Rico. The “charlas” (gatherings) served as an effective, culturally grounded way to bypass internet barriers, actively cultivating trust, kinship and hope among Hispanic/Latino patient-survivor-caregiver communities. Furthermore, the charla boosts health literacy and resources directly to marginalized individuals who lack reliable internet or digital skills. Removing the digital barrier transforms complex medical information into accessible, community-driven care. They are already planning for a June 2027 event, “Cáncer en los Hispanos/Latinos: Tomando Medidas para su salud y bienestar” in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
